Southern Arizona Photographer – Questions to Ask? Interviewing a wedding photographer.

Kennedy (2)-110

As a photographer who likes to be an open book about her business and what is provided I often find myself in casual conversations about what photographers provide, what to look for, what to consider when you are hiring a photographer for your wedding day!  Some things I think are important to know when choosing who will capture that days events……

No one photographer is for every client out there and the same goes for clients, not everyone is meant to work together so it is very important to really consider your choices.

The best place to start is do you love their work.  We are artists and we have all heard that art is subjective; the same is true for our photographic art, our images.  While one photographer may shoot from a very candid view, another may appreciate posed images more.  Which do you prefer?  There are many that are very talented at providing a good mixture of both.  Do appreciate the art that they post?  Check their social media platforms and their website, a common misconception is that a hired photographer will provide the exact editing style that you are looking for.  This is not accurate some are light and airy with their editing style while others have a more moody feel; make sure you like what you see and that is how you want your story to visually look when it is being told.Bride & Groom 1st Look-20

Ok so you love what you see.  Now it is time to start the conversation.  But where do you begin?  If you have a budget that you want to stick with that is a very important place to start the conversation.  There is no reason to spend your time or that business owners if there is no intention or ability to book them.  Many of us live on a budget, weddings are expensive and most weddings live on a budget too ;).  When looking at pricing it is important to understand what that includes.   Do you want a second shooter, two photographers capturing your day?  Know what events of the day are included in your coverage, is it based solely on hours or are they staying all day?  What do you get when the day is over?  There are photographers who only include prints, some include all images as digital files that you can download, many include both prints and digitals – sometimes only their time to photograph the event is included.   It is important that both you and your photographer are on the same page when it comes to coverage and the final product.  There are no do overs when capturing this day.  You never want yourself or your photographer to be unclear as to what everyone’s expectations are day of or when receiving the final images.

Ok so you have agreed on a budget, what is included and you are ready to hire this photographer – well I have a few more things you should be thinking about to make your day’s final images everything you could imagine.

Bridal Party Getting Ready00026

Your photographs on your wedding day are intimate peeks at everything that happens.  From getting ready and dressed, to romantic moments with you and your new spouse, to catching the moments that are happening all along the way you want to make sure there is a comfortability with the one person that is going to follow around through all of those experiences.  Compatibility is so important.  Meet with your photographer candidates, do you connect, can you relate?  How will you feel if this person is literally following you around for this big moment in your life?  Remember that part where I said everyone isn’t for everyone, blah blah blah well this can be a BIG mistake.  If you or your soon to be spouse are uncomfortable with this person’s personality it WILL affect your day.  Schedule an engagement session if you are on the fence.  You may find that you are a really good fit or maybe you can’t imagine listening to that person’s jokes all day.  You never know but your wedding day is too important to not be sure!

This is an important conversation to have and I would love your feedback or questions!

There is so much that happens behind the scenes for a photographer after the session is over.  The desired affect is to get the image s close to perfect within your camera but there are some magical things that are done right here on my computer.  Above is my nephew – who of course I feel is perfect in every way – as I think about his parents hanging these images on their wall I want there to be a simplicity in looking at his details at the tiny things that are so precious while he is this itty bitty.  Through editing I simply want to remove distractions and create a cohesive image.

2018-01-28_0002

If you watched my work and the direction of it over the years I hope you have continued to see what truly matters, connection.  I want there to be a connection in every image I deliver so that is what I strive for.  When I bring the images home and look at them on my computer screen I want to feel the connection between the subjects or with me and the camera.  Once I have that I already have a beautiful image through editing I just hope to enhance what is already there.

Editing is as much of the art form as the time behind my camera.  It takes time and passion to create the final photograph that I deliver but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Matt & Caitlyn with Memories by Tasha Photography – Twentynine Palms Photographer

Love when I get to spend a beautiful desert sunset with two sweet people celebrating their love.  Caitlyn is visiting her Marine and couldn’t stop enjoying the beauty here.  Matt was in awe too but honestly he was quite distracted by his Caitlyn! ❤

Cuteness and love were in the air.  Couples sessions are always a fun adventure.  As a photographer I want to capture their relationship, their time uninterrupted but as a client they are so aware that a camera is there photographing them and their every move.  Taking the time to slow down and work together to achieve a natural session is so important.

Kathryn contacted me before the holidays to set up a sunset engagement session; her one request Joshua Trees!  I love out desert and I love to capture clients that are excited about it’s beauty so of course I was ready to oblige.  15 years I have been here and I still believe there is nothing like our sunrises and sunsets.

We met at a hot spot in Joshua Tree before traveling to a desert location so we took advantage of getting to know each other a little and of the great textures at the JT Saloon.  I was quickly aware I would have to remind these two to look at the camera every once in awhile because they were fairly smitten with one another.

Kathryn from the east coast and Jack from the west are here in Twentynine Palms courtesy of the Marine Corps but they are enjoying their time here, together awaiting the next adventure.  A fall wedding to plan on the other coast and possibly an upcoming move they are fully learning all about Marine Corps family life.

Playful, flirty and fun would be my best description of these two and their session.  I asked Jack a couple of questions, “Do you ever give her piggy back rides?”  His response, ” Depends on where we are going.”  It was stated with such confidence no one would have guessed the real answer NEVER.  So we tried it.  I also asked him, “Do you have a thing, you know a special sweet kiss or something?”  Well what followed was a silly rendition of kissing but oh so sweet.

I wish you many years of happiness and joy!  May life and the Marine Corps take you on many adventures together.  Congratulations Jack and Kathryn!2017-01-08_0001

WOW What a year 2016! – Memories by Tasha Photography

2017 has BIG things coming, I am beyond excited but before we move forward let’s take a moment to look back through this year of awesomeness!

Every year I am amazed at the collection of experiences I have through my lens.  The emotions, the connections, the relationships, reunions, new life and existing bonds, the moments captured; I am never quite prepared for all that it is.  The images before me never cease to inspire me to want to work harder for this business and for you my clients and friends.

Throughout the years, I have watched your families grow, change, send loved ones off to new adventures and reconnect again and again.  I have met so many new people, made new friends, hung out with those visiting our beautiful desert while on vacation, snuggled the newest of babies, so many of my own stories and experiences are because of all of you.  Capturing your love stories, your birth stories, your history and your hopes for tomorrow is always my honor and my goal.

In this year, I have shared with you 39 families. 4 weddings, 1 vow renewal, 2 military retirements, 7 life events, 1 birth, 8 mommas & daddies to be, 11 newborns, 6 seniors, 3 military families reunited, 6 cakes smashes, 1 tea party birthday celebration, 1 sunset father/daughter dance session and 8 sessions celebrating childhood milestones.  I look at these collages and I am astonished at this year and the beauty that it has held.

Twentynine Palms Family Photographer – Brookins Family Fun!

Twentynine Palms Family Photographer - Brookins

I had the opportunity to photograph this family a couple of years ago; they even said they had fun!  This time there was the addition of a grandson so even more awesome.  With a big blended family photo shoots can be a little stressful but these guys show up every time ready to smile and have fun.

While discussing a location Andrea was excited to use the Indian Cove campground as their backdrop as they enjoying hiking there as a family.  This was a great chance to capture them in an environment that holds memories for them together.

Visiting from North Carolina was their new and handsome grandson who was super full of smiles.  Everyone wanted their picture with him so they all took turns trading baby and smiles.

There were lots of laughs, lots of funny faces and lots of memories captured!  Thank you for trusting me once again to capture these forever moments and I look forward to our next adventure.

{ Adam and Emily – She said YES! } Twentynine Palms Engagement Photography

Blessings abound.  I am getting a new sister!  These two hold such a special place in my heart for so many reasons and I can’t wait to officially call Emily my sister.

Adam and Emily share such a fun kind of love.  They each bring their uniqueness to the relationship complimenting one another perfectly.  As a family we have watched them grow together and it has been wonderful.  They make each other laugh, they harass one another (a requirement in our family), and they love each other wholly.  These two share a wide variety of exciting activities together from hiking, backpacking, to entertaining their great selection of friends for crazy game nights; they are forever busy and creating new memories.   Both settled into great occupations and a beautiful home we can’t wait to watch the next stage of their adventure together.

For my husband and I there are some additional blessings that these two have given us.  Our daughter has spent the last year living with them while she is attending college.  They have given a gift to all of us that is unrepayable other than to say a 1,000 thank yous.  They have given us the rare opportunity to have her grow at this stage of life with great examples while giving her the space to explore as an adult, something that is often difficult for us parents to do.  They have taught her about love and relationships beyond just what she has witnessed in our home.  They have given her the right balance of freedom and responsibility to continue her adventure into adulthood; for that we are forever grateful.

We are so ready to watch these two “make it official” but have always known that Emily was already ours to love.  See you soon!  Love you both!

So these two were adventurous for their engagement session with me; we met before the sun came up and began our small hike into this beautiful arch!  In tow we had some outfit changes, a picnic basket with champagne and chocolate what more could we ask for?  These two were fun, loving and produced some amazing images!  Thank you for sharing this great time with Memories by Tasha!Twentynine Palms Photographer, Yucca Valley Photographer, Twentynine Palms Engagement Photography, Yucca Valley Engagement Photography 1 Twentynine Palms Photographer, Yucca Valley Photographer, Twentynine Palms Engagement Photography, Yucca Valley Engagement Photography 2

And They Lived Happily Ever After – Twentynine Palms Wedding Photographer

Photography for me is an amazing way to tell someone’s story well weddings are that time when I get to tell an entire family’s story. On this day we were capturing the moments not only of Sonny and Kim becoming husband and wife but also of the moment when two families joined as one. These two celebrated their decision to join each other during this beautiful and fun ceremony. They also made sure to include each of their daughters during a necklace ceremony signifying their promise to love one another and these two beautiful girls. One of the best moments as these two were announced as husband and wife the girls, who had their own secret plan, shouted “And the lived happily ever after”!  Thank you Shotwells for sharing your special day with me!!

Arielle and Anthony, She said Yes!! – Twentynine Palms Photographer

Arielle contacted me with a quick fused request, she needed engagement pictures and she had a short timeline.  Her Marine was deploying in a few days.  We worked out some good locations on base and got to photographing.  Her Marine is a tank mechanic so we wanted to include the vehicles in our session.  As a first for me I was excited to see what we could do and I will say we got a lot more images than I would have thought.  This was a fun loving session that I am honored to have done.  Thank you for letting me capture this important time Anthony and Arielle!Twentynine Palms Photographer, Twentynine Palms Couple's Photography 4Twentynine Palms Photographer, Twentynine Palms Couple's Photography 3Twentynine Palms Photographer, Twentynine Palms Couple's Photography 2Twentynine Palms Photographer, Twentynine Palms Couple's Photography 1
